About
Northern Iron
Northern Iron is an Australian privately owned development company operating in Australia’s Northern Territory.
Established in 2021, Northern Iron is built on a wealth of industry knowledge and project experience sharing key investors and technical experts with sister company Peak Iron Mines.
Just like the Territory, Northern Iron does things differently.
The company is owned by a close group of private investors and operates with a small executive management team allowing Northern Iron to move quickly on big ideas and secure technical and industry advantages.
Northern Iron is focused on innovative rehabilitation that creates a commercially viable and sustainable product while contributing to local economies and global industries.
Northern Iron’s key project is the Warrego Rehabilitation Project located 50 km northwest of Tennant Creek.
The project, which became operational in October 2024, reclaims a low-grade iron ore stockpile from historic mine by-product at the Warrego mine site and produces it into a high-grade magnetite concentrate known as Northern Australian Magnetite Concentrate.
Northern Iron transports Northern Australia Magnetite Concentrate from a rail siding 40km from site to the Darwin Port via existing rail networks. The product is then is shipped across Asia to supply steel markets with a more environmentally friendly production option to traditional iron-ore.
The Warrego Rehabilitation Project has the potential to contribute $100 million per annum to the local Northern Territory economy and produce around 3.8 million tonnes of Northern Australia Magnetite Concentrate across a 3.5 year life span.
Northern Iron has a head office in Darwin and the company is committed to maintaining a strong presence across the Territory in both the Darwin and Barkley communities.
